There are different forms of dances which are originated in different parts of India. This includes Classical dance, other folk dances, contemporary dances and many more. Folk dances are generally local tradition of the respective states whereas Contemporary dance is the fusion of folk, classical and western forms. Shiva as Nataraj is worshipped as the lord of dance. In Classical dance forms there are further many different types of dances. In classical dances the dancers try to depict story out of their dance through their gestures and other body languages. Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Orissi and Sattriya are the different types of Classical dance forms.
In the tradition and folk dances the dances are divided into different regions. These dances are performed in groups and at the time of any festival or occasion. Every state has its own Folk dances like Bhangra and Giddha in Punjab, Bihu in Assam, Dandia and Garba in Gujarat, Choliya in Uttrakhand and Ghoomar in Rajasthan. These dances try to depict their culture and their way of celebrating the festivals. Every region has its own dance form and whenever they are happy they try to dance to express their happiness.
So to encourage people in the country dance festivals are also organised by different academies like Sangeet Natak Academy. Nowadays it is possible to learn any form of dance sitting in any part of the country because special teachers who are trained enough give coachings to the students who want to learn.
