BANJARAS: the wondering tribe

"BANJARAS" which are known as nomandic people from the interiors of Rajasthan. They are also called the "Gypsies of India". These are the people who do not have a fixed place for their living rather they rome from one place to another. Most of the banjaras are seen to do pottery and Blacksmith work.They have very simple way of living and they live in tents because they don't know for how long they are going to stay at one particular place. 

Women are known to wear colorful and beautiful clothes like Ghagra and long top and they also wear thick bangles on their arms. Their dresses are very fancy and they try to do mirror work on them to make it more attractive. They also wear different types of ornaments. Mens wear Dhoti and kurta. They wear these types of clothes so that they are easily identifiable and they look different from the other people.They are very humble people and they know folk stories and folk songs. They celebrate festivals like teej and at the time of karvachauth they rome around to apply mehendi on women's hand as they are mainly popular in terms of Rajasthani mehendi.

As their way of living is so simple they eat normal Daal Roti and mostly Dalia. They have a group leader who takes decision on behalf of everyone that where to migrate in the next season. They simply sit in trucks or general class compartments in train and go to wherever the journey takes them with no planning in advance. These people as they are not educated enough, marry their daughters at a very young age and they don't marry in the same Gotra as they consider them sister and brother. So by meeting and interacting with them I personally realised that their way of living is completely different from the other general people and they are neglected in the society as a whole.
